1. Jealous guy

This is my G3 entry of my LuRe Bingo Challenge (at LiveJournal) Prompt: Jealousy

Setting: this scene takes place before the first chapter of my Word Soap and after the scene outside Java, after Luke blurted out he’d told Noah that he loved Reid. Yeah? Are you with me? Let’s dive in then…

“I’m just saying…”

“I know what you’re saying, Luke. I’ve listened. You’re impressed with Dr. Rainsby’s people skills. Good for him.”

Luke frowned, looking at Reid on the couch next to him. They were sitting close, but the distance between them felt immeasurable. He bit his lip. They’d had a very intense day, but until now he had felt everything was fine. No, more than fine. Great. Reid now knew that Luke loved him and he knew that Reid also loved him, even though his doctor hadn’t actually said it out loud. He knew. He also knew he was ready for that next step, so he had invited himself to Katie’s place. Reid’s smile had been promising. So what had happened?

He watched Reid’s detached expression and it suddenly hit him.

“You’re jealous.”

Reid jumped up a little, as if he was actually bitten. His first response was to deny, but then he shrugged. Obviously annoyed.

“Big question now is: why?” Luke tried to narrow the gap, but Reid wasn’t ready. His head turned to Luke and his face showed disbelief and vexation.

“Why?” Reid sneered, making Luke flinch, “Really? You wonder why? After pointing out over and over again how I suck on social stuff? What I should change? What I should wear, even…?”

Reid threw the pillow, he unconsciously had grabbed, and stood up.

“And then you rave on about Rainsby’s good qualities and you expect what, Luke? That I rejoice in having such a fine example of people skills within reach? Hell yes, I’m jealous. I’d like some raving about my good qualities too, you know. And don’t start with me, because I know I have them…”

Reid was obviously on a roll. Standing next to the couch, he hit the armrest.
“Even more disturbing: I’m also jealous of Noah. How you keep defending that guy while he treated you like shit, Luke. Like shit! And all you focus on with me is what I do wrong.”

Reid walked over to the fridge and slapped the door with a flat hand.
“Damn, I’m even jealous of your jeans, because they’re around you all the time…So there. I’m jealous. Happy now?”

He needed to cool off. Reid opened the door, looking for something to eat, but another hand pushed the door shut again. Luke was standing in front of him and put his hands around Reid’s face.

“I’m sorry.” Luke’s eyes told Reid his young tormentor really understood. “I never meant to hurt you, Reid.”

The stroking fingers calmed Reid down and he shrugged.

“But I understand completely what you mean,” Luke’s voice was merely a whisper. “I’ve been in a relationship that focused on all my mistakes, remember? So I know what it’s like and I’m sorry I made you feel that way.”

Reid sighed. A small one, but with tons of relief inside of it.

“And you’re right…you have many great qualities…” Luke’s hands made their way to Reid’s waist and he pressed himself to Reid. The little flicker in the blue eyes told Luke that Reid had noticed Luke’s physical response to Reid’s presence and it made him smile. That part of their relationship would never be a problem. He was sure about that. And looking forward to it.

“And I promise to focus on them more,” Luke brushed his lips against Reid’s, pulled away and continued: “But in my defense…you did ask me to help you…”

“I know,” Reid replied softly, removing a blond lock from Luke’s forehead. “But it backfired, I guess. When it comes to you, I can feel rather insecure.”

“I’m starting to realize that,” Luke smiled at him. “But there’s really no need. Not anymore. I don’t want to be anywhere else but here. With you.”

Their kiss was a mixture of promise, hope, relief and repressed passion and when they disconnected, Luke playfully squeezed Reid’s chin.

“I must admit… that whole jealousy thing…it’s kinda hot. Not when it’s out of insecurity though…”

“Isn’t jealousy always related to insecurity, Dr. Freud?” Reid raised an eyebrow and Luke chuckled.

“Maybe. Essentially. But I mean that raw caveman you’re-mine-and-I-don’t-want-to-share kind of jealousy.”

“Ah,” Reid’s amusement was back and he gave Luke a teasing smile.

“But you’re not, are you now? Mine, I mean.”

“Oh yes I am,” Luke assured him, letting his hands explore Reid’s back and bottom. “I’m totally yours.” He pushed Reid to his body and when their lips found each other again, they started to vibrate.
Well, technically Reid started to vibrate and they both moaned.

Reid nodded, checking his beeper. “It’s an emergency.”

“Of course it is,” Luke sounded frustrated, but gave Reid a quick kiss and grabbed his coat. “Come on, let me drive you. I’m not letting you out of my sight.”

“Sounds good to me, Snyder…” Reid softly slapped Luke on the cheek, “Sounds good to me…”
